What it is & how it works
The Mastercard Developers sandbox gives each project a test environment that mirrors the production APIs across a wide range of services, including Send, Processing, and Locations. Mastercard runs it, and you use it to build and test API calls before production certification. Postman and Insomnia collections are provided so you can exercise endpoints quickly, and each API ships its own test card data for you to work with.
Setup, limits & watch-outs
Test data is per-API, so there is no universal test PAN set to reuse across services. Check each API's own documentation for its test cards and cases. Some APIs are gated and need approval or enterprise onboarding before you can call them, which slows a first integration. Treat the sandbox as the step before certification: passing there does not skip the production certification that many Mastercard APIs still require before you go live.
